Objects

Things; just things being things.

Summer in Caldwell May 17

It occurred to me one summer, that my mother could never see over the fence. I pondered over the implications of this one afternoon. I grew up very frustrated with my roots, In learning to walk in another persons shoes however, I saw the world from another’s perspective. What I had once believed to be naivete I now know to be the expression of an existence separate from my own. Many of my deeply held resentments immediately vanished.

Our differences in physical perspective slightly alters the context of what we see throughout our lives and in turn, necessarily influence how we perceive and feel towards something. I use this principle when playing with perspective. I do so in such a way that the photograph conjures the closest approximation to the feeling I’m wishing to evoke.

 Ostentatious (4) Jan 18

Frankly just a collection of the trash i’ve accumulated and tricked myself into thinking it’s worth keeping.

The Liminal South (3) June 19, Oct 21

The hotter it gets, the more of it you see. It’s stucco, baby!

The Number four Oct 21

The eponymously named 4th track on ‘The Infamous Bill’ by Khruangbin was licensed to a Corona beer commercial in 2018.

That ballad was immediately conjured here. I was staring into the Atlantic Ocean from Bavaro in Dominican Republic. I would go on to see Khruangbin Live in Montreal, some odd few years later.

Beings-in-itself (objects) encompasses things in existence that are autonomous and self-sufficient. It is concrete. It is devoid of the human faculty for intentionality or self-awareness, existing purely in its own right rather than being defined by human perceptions or meanings.

Being-in-itself stands in contrast to Being-for-itself, Which is reserved for consciousness. While human beings possess the capacity for self-reflection and the freedom to shape their own identities, Being-in-itself represents a state of existence that thrives independently of such. In this context, Being-in-itself could be thought of as the raw reality, the essence that underlies all things. It is an impersonal force, indifferent to human desires and beliefs. A rock, a mountain, or a water bottle all partake in the essence of Being-in-itself.

They exist as they are, unaffected by human categorizations, interpretations, or emotions. However, while “Being-in-itself” might seem distant and alien, it is a critical part of our ontology. Human existence is intimately intertwined with the universe, its separate and distinct objects — rocks, mountains, bottles, and so on, and it’s essences. Our consciousness, emotions, and experiences emerge from and interact with being-in-itself.

Objects serves as the necessary foundation upon which the project of existing, unfolds onto you.

Above, were some Objects I drew meaning from, so much so that I was motivated to enough to take a photo and eventually share here.
